hot time, summer in the city...6/29/2013 It's the end of June and the heat has arrived in Los Angeles after what has been, according to the locals, a relatively mild start to the year. Now, like many, I would love to know where in the world isn't too hot, too cold, too rainy, too dry, too boring, too noisy, too expensive, too poor, but until such an answer comes strolling my way, I will sweat like the rest of west.
I have though set myself a target of doing 20 readings/performances between now and the end of the year. In my recent past, a reading was an excuse to travel. It still is, and I am enjoying it just as much as ever, which is why this summer, to escape the heat, I am delighted to be going back to Ireland for a few such readings. It will give me a chance to cool off, drink some decent Guinness, meet old friends and exchanges giggles as if they were going out of fashion. It all starts with the Boyne Music Festival at the beginning of August. This is a new festival, with chamber music, art and poetry, taking place in the gorgeous Townley Hall manor house in Co. Louth. Check out the website for more details and come along for the craic. I'm at various stages of securing more readings at different places so please do check my 'Tour & Readings' link at the top of the page for the latest updates which I will add as soon as they are confirmed. A big thank you to Kevin Patrick Sullivan and the poets who looked after me in San Luis Obispo recently. We will meet again. I recently celebrated being 34 years young at a wonderful Whisky & Poetry Salon in downtown LA which renewed a bit of spark and motivation to do more readings, to keep touring and writing and meeting similar great people. For those of you who are in the area, keep an eye on their Facebook page and try to get a ticket for the next event in August as it's great. Next up for me is the Blue Bird Reading in Avenue 50, and then Ireland. Are you still there, Ireland? Do you remember me? X
